grandmother in the elevator

Paper, ink, 1993, 30 х 20 cm

In 1993, we lived in the large multi-stored and multi-sectioned apartment house in Moscow. The grandmothers from our house which liked to sit down outside near the entrances to the house, needed to bring the chairs with them from the apartment, as there were no sufficient number of banks installed near every entrance to accomodate all of them.
There was a family in a house where mother was Russian but father was from Nigeria, they had two children. I have imagined that if they grandmother would come from Nigeria, she also would be carrying the chair with her in the elevator.
